Chiropractic Care
Answers to your questions
Chiropractic care is one of the safest forms of health care available. In fact, you have a greater risk of injury/complication by taking one Tylenol than you do from receiving a chiropractic adjustment. All clients receive a comprehensive exam including a full neurological, muscular, skeletal and functional assessment. If chiropractic care is not appropriate for your condition, Dr. Altman will make a proper referral for you to another type of practitioner.
Every insurance policy is different. Most insurance policies do cover (or help cover) chiropractic care. Our office works with many insurance plans. We will go over your insurance coverage with you before any treatment is given so you can make an informed decision about your health care. You may also charge your chiropractic treatment at Experience Chiropractic to your credit card.
Some employers understand that insurance companies do not satisfy everyone’s needs and offer ‘flex’ plans to accommodate individual needs. Ask your employer about a ‘flex’ spending program or a cash program (for contact lenses, chiropractic care, braces or orthotics, therapeutic pillows, etc.)
We believe everyone should be seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis. Similar to going to your dentist or changing the oil in your car, wellness checkups are beneficial. After all, we demand a lot from our bodies on a daily basis so it’s important to make sure they are working properly and that our nervous system is free from irritation.
Licensed chiropractors such as Dr. Altman are trained as primary health care providers. We have in-depth knowledge of the body’s anatomy and physiology, much like your medical doctor. Therefore, chiropractors treat more than just back pain. We also treat problems in your extremities (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, etc.). which can all have far-reaching effects elsewhere in the body. For example, Dr. Altman treats high blood pressure, constipation, immune function, sinus problems, digestion, heart burn, dizziness, and fatigue. These all stem from misalignments along the spinal column and subsequent nerve irritations.
If your specific condition is not suitable for chiropractic care, Dr. Altman will make the proper referral.
Adjustments are not supposed to hurt. Dr. Altman utilizes many different techniques to adjust and realign the body, and thereby restore optimal health. This includes Upper Cervical Specific (Knee-Chest) work, which focuses on correcting misalignment of the atlas bone. Through his experience and knowledge, he will use the best technique for your situation.
The sound you typically hear when you get adjusted is actually gas or pressure being released from the joints. It is not your bones cracking!
Most people start to see some improvements after their first visit to the Altman Wellness Center but real gains are derived over time. We recommend a three-day trial treatment with people whose conditions are suitable for chiropractic care. We can start to make a change in those first three visits and then create a plan specific for you. The majority of our clients feel better right away and they describe having more energy and a stronger immune system. Occasionally people may experience muscle soreness after their first treatment, which is due to the muscles being released from the stress of the subluxation.
Spinal compression occurs when the disks separating and cushioning the vertebrae degenerate or slip as a result of age or an accident. The vertebrae come together and press against each other—a painful condition. This is also called spinal stenosis, or a narrowing of the space between the vertebrae. These compressions can happen in the cervical (upper), thoracic (chest) or lumbar (lower) region of the spine. The most common area affected is the lumbar spine followed by the cervical spine.
Spinal compressions place pressure on the nerves which in turn causes pain in the extremities, disrupts organ function, or cause back, neck, or shoulder pain. Patients may experience trouble walking, have headaches, or complain of other physical problems. Many physicians recommend surgery to fuse the vertebrae as a way to address stenosis. However, Dr. Altman is able to treat many cases of spinal compression or cervical compression through non-surgical means with theDRX9000™ True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System™.
At the third visit, we work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan to resolve your condition and guide you to optimum health. During your initial visits, Dr. Altman will spend time educating you on your condition and, if appropriate, recommend some other treatments available at the Altman Wellness Center to support you in being proactive in your health.
